Saturday, May 30th, 2009

okay so i’m a beginner and all i want is to bulk up , but not in my legs i need to be seen in the upper body, then when i’m big enough i can start focusing on the legs. so what kind of advantages does leg workout give, is it good to lower metabolism or raise testosterone level?

yes! My boyfriend has a super big upperbody. But his legs have been neglected, now that hes 26 he has bad knee problems. It is hard for your legs to support all the weight on top.

what is a good bodybulding diet?

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

well right now i only eat 3 meals a day counting my protein shake in the morning and i only get like about 80g of protein anyways i heard bodybuilders are supposed to eat 5 meals a day, what should i eat?

Hi dAVId760,

To bulk up and gain a lot of muscle mass, you must do a lot of resistance training progressively but also consume a lot of calories at the same time. The extra calories that you consume are to supply the energy for your workouts as well as to replace and build lean tissue. To gain one pound of lean tissue, you must consume 2,500 extra calories. Therefore, to gain one or two pounds of lean tissue a week, you will need to consume about 350 or 700 extra calories daily, respectively. You must also do a lot of resistance training so that the extra calories consumed are used for gaining muscle mass and supplying needed energy, and not to be stored as fat. Since muscle tissue is more protein than fat or glycogen, it is suggested that you consume about 2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily (if the protein is plant-based, more is required). Any extra calories that still needs to be made up after considering the protein requirements can be done with higher calorie foods. Eating 5 meals a day, like you said, or even more will depend on how much calories you still need (some use meal replacements to get the inadequate amount of calories they need to meet recommended requirements).

If you are not used to resistance training, you must start slow and gradually build up. It is not necessary to consume the recommended amount of proteins and calories stated above when you first start out, as you will not be lifting much and all the extra calories will not be used up to either supply fuel for the workouts or replace and build lean tissue, causing your body to store much of the extra calories as fat. Also, make sure your body can adapt to the progression rate and gradually be accustomed to heavier loads. Then, increase your calorie and protein uptake as you increase your resistance training duration, frequency, and intensity. But again, you must take care to not overtrain, as this will lean to adverse training effects, including decrease of lean muscle mass.

Workout:

Warm up: Be sure to always warm up before engaging in physical activities. If you don't have time to warm-up, you don't have time to exercise. (Not enough room here to provide more detailed information).

Reps: Usually, high-intensity low-volume workouts are better for bulking up. This means that the sets should be near maximal (you should only be able to do about 4-8 reps per set) and consequently, you will not be able to do as many reps or sets compared to a low-intensity workout.

Sets: The number of sets you'll be able to do is dependent on your fitness condition. Always listen to your body to prevent overtraining. I will not prescribe a certain number of sets per day as your body will be better at doing this during the workout itself, but it may be helpful to set a goal in your mind before working out. However, if for example, you have a goal of doing 15 sets that day, but feel like your body is not responding normally during the 7th set, then it only seems logical to discontinue the workout and get the needed rest your body is calling for. In general, you should try to go for about 15-20 sets (this may be per day or on workout days, depending on the routine that you choose) when your body has gotten accustomed to such work.

Routine: Because there are various types of workout routines out there all claiming to be the best and most efficient and also because individuals will respond differently to different exercises and routines based on genetics and other factors, I will not be able to say which one is the best. I will mention, however, two of the top (but very different) routines you might want to be consider.
1) Resistance train six to seven days a week by working different muscle groups each day (i.e. arms on Monday, chest on Tuesday, back on Wednesday, legs on Thursday, etc.) You may want to start out with some sort of combination so that you do not overtrain your muscles while they are still adapting to more amount of work.
2) Do only whole-body exercises (bench press, squat, power clean, deadlift, etc.) every other day with a few sets of abdominal workouts once or twice a week. This means that you shouldn't bother yourself with exercises that just work a single group of muscles (i.e. bicep curls, triceps extension, etc.)
Although it is not clear which routine is more effective (may be dependent upon the individual), as long as you're doing the exercises properly and not overtraining, then there will definitely be benefits. Therefore, it may not hurt for you to switch from one routine to another to see if you can tell which ones work for you best. Who knows, you might actually get the best workout this way as you will be implementing the concept of muscle confusion by switching to different routines after a period of time.

Rest:

Make sure you get plenty of rest. 8-10 hours of sleep everyday is suggested.

I hope this helps!

Natural Progesterone For Better Bones And Health

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

These days you hear a lot about hormones and estrogen in particular especially when it comes to the effects of women aging. Recently we’ve been hearing that hormone replacement therapy may not be the great answer we once thought it was and can, in fact, be dangerous.

But estrogen is not the only hormone in your body and in fact, progesterone is just as important and as much a part of the aging process as estrogen. Hormone replacement pills often contain synthetic progestins which in themselves may not be so good for you and at the least do nothing at all. However, natural progesterone can be quite beneficial in helping your body in a few key areas.

Natural progesterone has not shown to be toxic or cause any increased risk of disease even when taking at much higher levels in the body typically produces. In fact, it is then shown that breast cancer cells which were exposed to natural progesterone did not multiply as fast as those cells which were not exposed to it so there may be some protection against breast cancer.

Another thing that natural progesterone can help in aging body with his bone health. We all know that as women age, the risk of osteoporosis increases. One of the reasons for this, although it is not widely publicized is that your body does not produce as much progesterone. In fact this can happen in even younger women who, for some reason, do not ovulate properly be it due to excessive exercise or other factors.

You see, your bones are made up of osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Osteoblasts are responsible for building new bone and they are stimulated into production by progesterone. And osteoclasts, on the other hand, are responsible for the removal of old bone and are stimulated into production by estrogen. If you are producing too much estrogen in comparison to progesterone, then your body is taking way old bone but not building any new bone.

Natural progesterone can also help with a slew of other symptoms including migraine headaches, hot flashes, unstable blood sugar, depression, ovarian cysts and a lot more!

You can get natural progesterone pills, but the easiest way is probably to just get a natural progesterone cream that you can buy without a prescription. You should check with your doctor before doing this though because you want to be sure that this will not interfere with any other medications or hormone replacements that he has you on. The creams are quite easy to use and you simply rub them on a thin skin area such as your breasts, or underneath your arms. Depending on whether you are premenopausal or postmenopausal you may use the cream on different days out of the month.

What is your Bodybuilding Body Type?

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Try and name a sport that you can participate in even if you are an old person. Chances are, you will have a hard time naming even one. But if you named bodybuilding, you are dead on right.

Bodybuilding is the art and science of developing the musculature of your body via certain kinds of physical exertion and diet whose end goal is to showcase the body for competitive exhibition. The most popular kind of bodybuilding exercise is weightlifting or weight training.

What makes bodybuilding so appealing is that it is a sport that everyone of any age can participate in. The only requirements are that one be in relatively good physical condition, has access to gym equipment, and can financially afford the lifestyle it demands.

What are the different types of bodybuilding workouts? Well, it depends first on whether your body type is that of an ectomorph, endomorph or mesomorph.

An ectomorph is considered the slow gainer among bodybuilding types. He needs to slow down his hyper metabolism in order to gain muscle size and strength. This means his exercise routine should be severe enough to trigger muscle growth yet short enough to avoid nervous drain.

An endomorph, on the other hand, has a sluggish metabolism. He needs some kind of stimulating exercise every session in order to rev up his metabolism. Also, an endomorph should restrict his calorie intake due to an over-efficient digestive system that makes him gain weight easily.

The luckiest among the body types (as far as bodybuilding is concerned) is the mesomorph. A true mesomorph is able to gain muscle even with little effort on his part. Mesomorphs can be said to be gifted with muscle-building abilities, the Chosen People of bodybuilding.

No one belongs solely to one body type. Most people can be said to be a mixture of the three. However, one body type usually dominates a person’s build so that it is relatively easy to categorize bodybuilders.

Despite one’s body type, there are common techniques to follow when bodybuilding. These are:

1. Keep a training diary so that you can monitor your progress and determine what you should aim for in the future.

2. Pay attention when lifting any kind of weight to avoid injury. Carelessness is probably the foremost cause of injuries in bodybuilding.

3. Choose the types of exercises that can contract as many muscle fibers as possible during one set. This will maximize the effectiveness of the core repetitions which make up most of one’s training.

4. Warm up properly prior to doing any exercise to prevent injury.

5. Don’t change the technique of doing any exercise unless you know what you are doing. Experimenting is another cause of injury.

6. Don’t do those exercises which are known to cause tendon or joint damage.

7. Good exercise style prevents injury. So keep proper form while exercising.

8. Learn to distinguish between the pain caused by lactic acid build-up within the muscle, and the pain caused by a serious injury. Mistaking one for the other could cause you to keep exercising despite being injured, thereby worsening the injury. Rest if you are injured.

9. Practice stretching before working out. This also helps you ward off injuries.

Hopefully, these tips will help you enjoy participating in the sport of bodybuilding.

The Cardio Body Building Fallacy

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Most workout programs, in my opinion, are examples of cardio body building and are wrongly based on bodybuilder isolation movement exercises and marathoner extended aerobic training.

This is NOT the path to optimum fitness excellence!

The cardio body building combination is actually the biggest training mistake you can make.

Now before you get angry…

There is absolutely nothing wrong with training like a Bodybuilder or Marathoner… especially if you are a Bodybuilder or Marathoner.

I am just proposing that the training philosophies of Bodybuilders and Marathoners are not the path to an optimum level of fitness where all of the physical skills of cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and toughness are improved… Whether you adhere to the philosophy of each group alone or in combination.

I know this goes against most physical training protocols used in commercial gyms around the world that adhere to the cardio body building combination as the training methods of choice.

It is easy to see how these training protocols came to be combined…

In an attempt to improve fitness on a more general level for the non-professional fitness enthusiast, gyms and health clubs throughout the world have prescribed the typical cardio body building program of isolated movement strength training and extended aerobic training sessions.

The belief was that if isolated movement weight training is effective for Bodybuilders, and extended aerobic sessions are effective for Marathoners, that a combination of the two training methods would give the general fitness enthusiast the best of both worlds.

The fact is, Bodybuilding training methods are more concerned with muscle growth than muscular strength, power and endurance… and both of these training methods almost completely ignore the other physical abilities like coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and flexibility.

It is no wonder why millions of people participating in cardio body building inspired fitness programs fail to meet their over-all fitness goals… They are making a big training mistake.

On a personal Note…

I am guilty of training in the cardio body building fashion in my younger years in preparation for wrestling season.

I would lift weights using isolation exercises and run long distances to increase aerobic capacity.

I quickly learned in the first week of practice that the inflated muscles and aerobic capacity that I gained through cardio body building training did little or nothing to provide the fitness level needed for my chosen sport.

Oh well, there is nothing I can do about that now… but there is something that YOU can do to improve your physical training in preparation for sport, work, life.

Reflect on your current workout program…

If your current workout program looks like the cardio body building protocol described above… don’t despair.

Any exercise is better than none, so you have not completely wasted your time.

In fact… the isolated movement strength training has given you some degree of strength, and the aerobic exercise is an essential base of fitness.

However, to improve your physical training and optimize your performance you must be prepared to radically change the methods you use in pursuit of strength, conditioning and fitness excellence.

Be honest with yourself… are you getting the most out of your current cardio body building physical training program?

Are the exercises and methods you are using best suited to improve over-all fitness… or do they only focus on muscular size and cardiorespiratory endurance?

Ask yourself this question…

Is your current physical fitness training program based on the acceptable and deliberate compromise of competence and ability to perform in ALL the areas of cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and toughness to produce optimum performance results under the greatest amount of circumstances?

If not, it is probably based on the cardio body building fallacy… and your physical training can be greatly improved.

If your goal of physical training is to inflate your muscles and perform monotonous, single intensity aerobic exercise for extended periods of time… do nothing.

If your goal of physical training is to become a better human being suited to successfully overcome the random challenges of sport, work and life… It is time to change your physical fitness training program to one not based on the cardio body building fallacy.

Natural Weight Loss – The Safe Way To Lose Weight

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Are you sick and tired of that extra weight you are carrying around? If you want to get rid of that extra pounds on your body, you should undergo a natural weight loss process. Although there are many diet programs and weight pills that would entice you with some great testimonials from people who have successfully finished their weight reduction program, crash diets and diet pills are not long term solutions to your weight problems.

If you are really serious about losing weight and keeping off that extra weight from your body forever, you should lose weight the natural way. Unlike those crash diet programs and those diet pills where you will eventually gain back all the pounds that you shed off right after you stop taking the pills and starving yourself, you will more likely be able to stay slim if you lose weight the natural way.

Eating a proper diet to lose weight naturally

The secret of natural weight loss is to eat right and exercise more. If you have been living an unhealthy lifestyle, make some changes immediately. Proper diet and exercise are good for the body. People who eat a balanced diet and do some daily exercise routine are generally a lot healthier than those people who don’t really bother to exercise and watch what they eat.

One of the best ways to lose weight naturally is to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables while avoiding fatty foods. Fruits and vegetables are high in soluble fibers that facilitate good digestion. If your digestive system is healthy, your body will be able to process food more easily. According to experts, unlike fatty foods, which tend to clog your system, high fiber food will help you cleanse your colon.

Fatty foods are generally harmful to your body. Aside from building up fats in the most unflattering areas of your body, a fatty diet could lead to so many types of fatal diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. To lose naturally, avoid eating fatty foods.

Drink plenty of water. Drinking at least glasses of water a day should be your goal. Water can help you lose some weight and it makes you feel better too.

Exercising

Aside from eating right, you should exercise daily. You do not have to go through some power exercise routine if you do not want to. Just doing some simple exercise daily will be enough to shed off a few pounds. In fact, you can exercise while going to your workplace. If you happen to work in an office building, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Climbing stairs is a very good form of exercise and it’s free too.

Another way for you to exercise while going to work is to walk. If you have been fighting for that coveted parking space nearest to the entrance of your office building, give it. Park at the far end of the parking and then walk the rest of the way. Walking across the parking lot and climbing stairs just to get to your office is one of the best natural weight loss routine that you can have.

Natural Bodybuilding: The Way to Build a Great Body

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Professional bodybuilding has gotten a bad rap in some places for steroids, but this is a shame because natural bodybuilding is the way to go from the amateurs to the semi-pros to some of the best professional bodybuilders in the world. Natural bodybuilding is using a smart natural diet heavy in both proteins and carbs, and using that diet in conjunction with special weightlifting routines designed at really working out related groups of muscles together. Instead of doing one set of chest exercises on three different days, you want to do multiple chest exercises at once on one day, then work out other parts of the body on other days, rotating as appropriate.

Natural bodybuilding is the best way to get healthy and build a great looking physique while not having to worry about the negative health effects of steroids and other unnatural supplements that could be hazardous for your health. Natural bodybuilding is wildly popular on every level of bodybuilding, and should be the route that every individual takes in trying to work out in order to get into better shape and build up a more impressive physique.

The most important thing to remember when trying to bulk up through natural bodybuilding is that hard work and a lot of food. The right type of natural bodybuilding workout to bulk up is one that involves heavier weight and less reps while combining that with a healthy diet that is loaded in protein and carbs to put on more muscle mass. The right foods are needed to provide the fuel and calories your body needs to build muscle mass. Great free weight exercises combined with the right diet are best.

No matter how fancy the machines look, natural bodybuilders know that despite what the yelling TV commercials say, nothing can beat the resistance training that comes from using free weights of all kinds. A huge array of exercises can be used with free weights, and some can even be combined for maximum effectiveness, like pushups that also use dumbbells to do triceps extensions at the end.

The next focus with natural bodybuilding is to exercise specific muscle groups together. Many popular exercises with natural bodybuilding not only include free weights like dumbbells and barbells, but also push ups, sit ups, pull ups, lunges, body weight squats, and other similar exercises. These natural bodybuilding workout sessions can last an hour or slightly more, and are often performed up to 4 times a week for maximum results. The carbs and protein are important for energy, calories to turn into muscle, and with protein to rebuild the muscles after all these heavy workouts.

This hard core workout can help people shed away the fat and put some heavy muscle getting into some great natural bodybuilding workouts. The best part of working out this way, the natural way, is that you don’t have to worry about the unhealthy and potentially fatal side effects that can come from unnatural supplements.

In bodybuilding, you may want to look good having a perfect body. Or you may want to stay physically fit and healthy. Just make sure that you do this for yourself and not for anyone else.

Nowadays, a high percentage of bodybuilding exercise programs are in demand because of the many participants who want to get better and look good. You may set specific goals up to what extent you want your body to progress and improve.

For beginners, here are some basic body building exercise tips in starting your body building program. Some of these methods are really basic but can help you a lot.

4.Perform static holds to increase resistance with the hardest position of the range of your exercise motion. You can do a top position while exercising your leg extension muscles.

5.You may exercise partial rep in weak range position. You may perform a portion of the rep exercise where you are weakest.

6.Perform strip-set. Do this after you are through with your warm up exercises.

You may perform three sets of back to back exercises with no rest while starting with the heaviest weight available.
